Location  

The Dharma House community is based in the south of France, an hour north of Nîmes and 25 minutes from Alès, in the Gard department of Languedoc and Roussillon. It is easily accessible by both train and bus. Hire cars are available from local companies in Nîmes and Alès for those who prefer to drive. The closest airports are in Nîmes, Montpellier and Marseille.

How to get to the Dharma house

We are located in the Gard region of Languedoc et Roussillon, close to the town of Saint Ambroix, which is about 25 minutes north of Alès and one hour from Nîmes on the road to Aubenas. See below for more information on various ways of getting to St. Ambroix.

By train
There is a station in St. Ambroix, so it’s easy to get here by train.

For train times see www.voyages-sncf.com (there is an English option on this site and you can buy your tickets too). You will have to change at Alès for the final stage of the journey, and depending on the time of year SNCF sometimes swap you over to a coach for this part (from Alès to St. Ambroix).

If coming from the UK, also look at the Eurostar website: www.eurostar.com. You can get from London to St. Ambroix for about 100 pounds, with a combination of Eurostar and SNCF, and it’s a very pleasant journey.

By coach

By plane
Our nearest airport is Nîmes, Ryan air fly to this airport form various cities in Europe. From the airport you take a bus to the train station in Nîmes town centre. St. Ambroix is about one hour by train.

Montpellier airport is also quite close, Easy Jet fly into there. Again from the airport you take a bus to the train station in Montpellier town centre. St Ambroix is about one and a half hours by train.

Avignon or Marseille airports are also reasonably close by, though they are about 2 – 3 hours from us by train.

Cars can be rented up in the airports or in most surrounding main towns. Two rent a car firms are www.europcar.fr and www.avis.fr.
